2022 was a bumper year for spa voucher sales reveals new data from SpaSeekers, the UK’s longest-standing spa booking agency. The research showed a 10.25% uplift in voucher sales compared to 2021 across SpaSeeker’s 400 UK spas. This increase helps to show that despite the cost of living crisis, consumers are still committed to ‘essential’ health and wellbeing spending*.

Balancing gift voucher redemptions can be a challenge for spa operators but this latest information from SpaSeekers can help spa operators plan for occupancy within the first 3 months after a record voucher sales year.

SpaSeekers new data reveals that in 2022, 50% of redemptions of spa vouchers took place within the first two to three months, with 25% of redemptions taking place within a month of purchase. Interestingly, this also shows a change in consumer behaviour; only 7.5% of people were redeeming their vouchers in the first month in 2021 and they were more likely to take up to six months to redeem vouchers, with 50% taking up to the full six months to use.

SpaSeekers’ Director, Jason Goldberg, states: “We were thrilled to see the trend in gifting experiences continuing in 2022, with a 10.25% increase in sales over 2021. What’s fascinating is we’re seeing people are ‘cashing in’ their experiences faster and looking to enjoy their treats sooner. This information can help spa operators plan for occupancy and decide if they need to offer last minute deals or incentives to fill potential white space.”
