East Yorkshire’s luxury retreat The Highfield unveils The Quarters Penthouse

The Highfield, an award-winning five-star luxury country house hotel in Driffield, sits within eight acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and historic parkland, nestled in the heart of the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds. This July, the luxury retreat unveils its most exclusive offering yet – The Quarters Penthouse.

Perched privately at the top of the house, The Quarters Penthouse is a remarkable new space where heritage, craftsmanship, and indulgence meet. Designed by international creative duo and property owners Andy and Lindsey Lampard, the Penthouse occupies the uppermost floor with its own private entrance, offering guests an elevated experience – both literally and figuratively.

Once the domain of the property’s servants, this reimagined space now represents the pinnacle of Merchant Luxury – an ethos, which holds sustainability, heritage and service at its heart, striving to represent the industrious Yorkshire spirit and combining this with ultimate luxury and local arts, crafts, and creating a welcoming, genuine environment where past and present mix.

Rich in story and character, the interiors pay tribute to its humble beginnings while exuding contemporary elegance. Original artworks by Andy reinterpret traditional portraits of local tradespeople – from beekeepers to butchers – casting a modern, artistic lens on the region’s storied past.

In true merchant style, the design ethos marries globally inspired techniques with locally sourced materials. A rich tapestry of textures is woven throughout the space, from charred timber wall finishes achieved through the ancient Shou Sugi Ban technique to raw, bespoke-patterned fabrics and waney-edged timbers milled from trees within the estate’s own woodland. Upcycled furnishings and restored antiques sit harmoniously alongside contemporary classics, ensuring a space that is as sustainable as it is luxurious.

Andy Lampard, Owner and Managing Director of The Highfield, reflects on the project: “The Quarters Penthouse is our way of telling the story of this house – its working past, its transformation, and its place in today’s world. We wanted to create a space that is both deeply rooted in Yorkshire’s industrious heritage and undeniably luxurious. This is a penthouse with soul, a place where every texture and every object has a story to tell.”

Guests of The Quarters Penthouse can enjoy a private lounge complete with a record player and curated vinyl collection, a games room and a spacious super king bedroom featuring a top-of-the-range Harris Spinks mattress and 800 thread count Richard Haworth linens.

A roll-top bath and rain shower, stocked with indulgent Bramley products, provide a spa-like retreat, while rooftop views over the gardens offer the perfect vantage point for those quieter moments of relaxation – the penthouse is a true ‘birds nest’ to watch the world go by.

For those seeking an even more tailored experience, extended family accommodation is available, including The Quarter Loft, an add-on featuring an interconnected double twin room. The property also welcomes four-legged guests, making it the perfect inclusive escape for all the family to enjoy.

Lindsey Lampard, Owner and Director of The Highfield, adds: “We always look forward to this time of year, when the house and gardens truly come alive. The recent reopening of our outdoor spaces allows guests to experience The Highfield at its most vibrant – it’s all about creating an atmosphere that feels both special and authentic.”

The Highfield continues to set the standard for luxury hospitality in Yorkshire, and as a family-run luxury business, it blends effortless elegance with a warm, personal touch. With the unveiling of The Quarters Penthouse, The Highfield invites guests to experience a perfect balance of tradition and modern indulgence.
