CULLODEN ESTATE & SPA WINS AA HOTEL OF THE YEAR FOR NORTHERN IRELAND AT THE AA HOSPITALITY AWARDS 2026

Culloden Estate & Spa, one of Hastings Hotels' five-star properties, has been announced the winner of AA Hotel of the Year for Northern Ireland at the prestigious AA Hospitality Awards 2026, which took place at JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London last night.

Over 1,000 industry professionals gathered to celebrate excellence across the UK hospitality landscape with the AA Hospitality Awards recognising the very best of British hospitality, shining a spotlight on the businesses and people that deliver outstanding guest experiences, exceptional service and genuine passion for their craft.

As Culloden Estate & Spa celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, the hotel has marked the occasion with the completion of a £620,000 investment designed to further elevate the luxury guest experience. This includes a refined refurbishment of guest rooms, featuring elegant new interiors, enhanced furnishings and luxurious bathroom upgrades. Meanwhile, the historic Ailsa Suite, a private dining room boasting stunning views across the estate and lough, has been thoughtfully transformed to reflect the architecture and heritage of the original 1876 building, creating a sophisticated setting for meetings, private dining and special occasions. In addition, The Spa at Culloden has benefited from significant improvements to its interiors and fitness facilities, ensuring its wellness offering continues to meet the highest standards of quality and guest experience.

This award comes a year after the hotel's flagship restaurant, Vespers, was awarded two AA Rosettes, recognising its blend of classic and contemporary dining and exceptional service.

Set within 12 acres of secluded gardens, the Culloden Estate & Spa combines countryside tranquillity and panoramic views with convenient access to Belfast city centre. Rich in heritage, the property was originally built as a palace for the Bishops of Down before being transformed into a luxury hotel in the 20th century. Today, with 98 individually designed rooms and suites, award-winning dining, a renowned destination spa and an ongoing commitment to exceptional service and investment, the Culloden remains one of Northern Ireland’s most distinguished luxury hotels.

Cormac Fadden, General Manager of Culloden Estate & Spa commented:

"We are incredibly proud to be named AA Hotel of the Year for Northern Ireland at the AA Hospitality Awards 2026. Receiving this prestigious accolade is a true reflection of the passion and dedication of our entire team, who work tirelessly to create exceptional and memorable experiences for every guest while upholding the outstanding service standards for which the Culloden is renowned. It is a true honour to have this commitment, care and attention to detail recognised at an event that celebrates the very best of British and Northern Irish hospitality."

Simon Numphud, Managing Director of AA Hotel & Hospitality Services said:

"Congratulations to Culloden Estate & Spa on being named AA Hotel of the Year for Northern Ireland at the AA Hospitality Awards 2026. Our annual Awards celebrate the businesses and people that set the standard for the industry across the UK, and Culloden Estate & Spa is a brilliant example of a team that deliver true hospitality for their guests. SITEMINDER UNVEILS DYNAMIC COMMERCE ENGINE TO CLOSE THE ‘EXECUTION GAP’ IN HOTEL DISTRIBUTION

SiteMinder, the world’s leading hotel commerce platform, has unveiled its Dynamic Commerce Engine to close the ‘execution gap’ in how hotels maximise revenue across all their commercial levers, including pricing and, for the first time, distribution.

Until now, hotels have been limited by technologies that have surfaced only pricing recommendations upon request. SiteMinder’s Dynamic Commerce Engine will go deeper, using machine learning (ML) and AI to surface and execute optimisation recommendations across every commercial lever for a hotel, both at the pricing layer and uniquely at the foundational distribution layer, where underlying issues can significantly limit revenue. These include broken distribution channel connections and unmapped room types, which often go unnoticed and contribute to a multi-billion-dollar opportunity cost for hotels.

The engine will be powered by an unmatched scale of data and distribution capability within the hotel industry. SiteMinder’s platform, used for 20 years by hoteliers, including those at 56,000 individual properties, today powers 2.6 million hotel rooms, 140 million reservations and 300 million room nights every year. Its built-in ML model will leverage these, nearly 4 billion availability, rates and inventory (ARI) signals, to score optimisation opportunities for each property and then surface the most valuable recommendations. Designed as AI-enabled with hoteliers in control, users will then approve every recommended change before the engine executes.

The Dynamic Commerce Engine comes at a pivotal time for hotels, with new SiteMinder research highlighting the need for a hotel’s online presence to stay accurate and consistent. In a survey of more than 12,000 travellers across 14 countries, more than half (51.4%) admitted to abandoning an online hotel booking because of a bad experience. At least one-in-four (26.5%) said it was due to the reviews, photos or details not feeling trustworthy.

“Hotels want to keep up with today’s changing travel landscape, but they don’t have the time or resources to do it and so doing the bare minimum of staying ‘online’ becomes the easiest choice. This is a choice that too many hotels have made for too long, and what it has led to is an intention-action gap – an execution gap. SiteMinder’s Dynamic Commerce Engine is testament that AI has widened the execution gap for hotels, and that AI can also close it with hoteliers staying firmly in control,”

says Sankar Narayan, CEO and Managing Director of SiteMinder.

“Reports and AI assistants are no longer enough. Hotels need to know which opportunities actually matter, without having to ask their system, and to be able to convert those opportunities into revenue. This is what we’re making possible. Pricing can’t be the only focus; the same focus is needed for the distribution layer—the foundations—underneath, which has a direct impact on the guest experience. It’s only with an optimised distribution setup that a guest can know if a room is available, at the price they're willing to pay.”

SiteMinder’s Dynamic Commerce Engine will go live over the coming months and hotels can register their interest here.

BC SOFTWEAR LAUNCHES NEW TEXTILE RECYCLING SOLUTION

Leading hotel and spa textiles supplier, BC SoftWear, has partnered with Avena Group, a specialist textile repurposing company, to launch a new end-of-life recycling initiative for the spa and hospitality sectors.

Through the partnership, BC SoftWear is strengthening its commitment to sustainability by supporting circularity in textiles. BC SoftWear’s customers can now access Avena's SecureBrand®, a reliable end-of-life recycling solution that helps them to reduce textile waste while supporting their environmental objectives.

Used towels, bathrobes, slippers, spa linens and any other end-of-life textile products are collected by Avena Group and, wherever possible, repurposed into new products. These include composite building materials such as insulation, sound boarding, geotextiles and fibre reinforced concrete, keeping valuable resources in use for longer. For businesses whose textiles carry identifiable branding, the SecureBrand® process permanently removes logos, monograms and bespoke designs during processing, ensuring brand security.

By extending the life of textiles and diverting them from landfill, the initiative gives hotels and spas a practical, measurable way to strengthen their sustainability credentials and support responsible resource management.

“We have always been committed to running our business in the most sustainable way possible, from designing products that are made to last to continually reducing waste across our supply chain,” says BC SoftWear founder and CEO, Barbara Cooke. “We are all too aware of the impact end-of-life textiles and single-use slippers have on the environment – 92 million tonnes of textile waste ends up in landfill every year – so we’re delighted to be partnering with Avena to provide our customers with a trusted, secure solution for recycling products at the end of their useful life.”

As a Certified B Corp™, BC SoftWear has a long-standing commitment to helping customers make responsible choices throughout the lifecycle of the products they purchase.

“Thanks to Avena's innovation, our products go on to live another life once they've been used by hotel and spa guests,” adds Cooke. “It's our way of supporting the circular economy – giving our customers a seamless solution that combines premium textile supply with responsible end-of-life management.”

Long-standing BC SoftWear customers the five-star Scottish hotel Gleneagles has already signed up to the scheme to recycle its slippers, while Guarantee Laundry is using Avena to recycle end-of-life textiles. Customers interested in joining SecureBrand should contact enquiries@bcsoftwear.com.

GROSVENOR HOUSE SUITES ANNOUNCES NEW EMBER CIGARS LOUNGE

A new cigar tasting lounge enhances the guest offering at Grosvenor House Suites and marks the first time the Mayfair property has welcomed non-residents to a dedicated hospitality experience.

Grosvenor House Suites has announced the opening of Ember Cigars, a new cigar tasting lounge, marking the latest phase in the property's ongoing enhancement programme. Located on the second floor, the lounge has been designed by Wimberly Interiors and introduces a dedicated cigar experience for both hotel guests and non-residents.

Following the ongoing refurbishment of 32 suites and the introduction of a new concierge arrival space, the addition of Ember Cigars expands the property's guest offering and reflects demand for private spaces for socialising, informal meetings and entertaining.

EMBER CIGARS TASTING LOUNGE

The concept was informed by research into some of London's established cigar destinations, with the aim of creating a cigar lounge that complements the character and atmosphere of Grosvenor House Suites. An advanced ventilation system, developed in partnership with Swiss specialists, has been integrated throughout the space to maintain air quality and comfort.

Inspired by Grosvenor House Suites' location between Hyde Park and Mayfair, the interiors reinterpret the traditional cigar lounge in a contemporary setting. Dark timber panelling is complemented by a palette of green, taupe and rust tones, while a feature fireplace clad in Verde Alpi marble creates a focal point within the space.

The venue features a bespoke humidor showcasing a curated selection of premium cigars from Cuba, Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic, including vintage regional and limited-edition releases. The drinks menu has been designed to complement the cigar experience, with a range of fine wines, speciality teas, artisan coffee and curated whisky flights. Guests can explore whiskies from leading Scottish distilleries alongside rare and collectible expressions such as Glenturret 50-Year-Old, Hazelwood, and Rosebank, Gordon & MacPhail 1990.

CRAFTSMANSHIP AND PARTNERSHIPS

Leading the operation is Rhys Hamilton, who brings more than 15 years' experience in the UK cigar industry. Hamilton has previously held positions with some of London's best-known cigar retailers, including Alfred Dunhill, Sautter Cigars and Davidoff of London.

Ember Cigars will also feature a curated selection of collaborations and brands, including Swiss watchmaker Jacob & Co., Scottish whisky distillery The Glenturret in partnership with Lalique, and British designer Alexandra Llewellyn. Renowned for her handcrafted games, accessories and bespoke commissions, Alexandra Llewellyn creates highly personalised pieces from her London studio, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. Together, these partnerships complement Ember Cigars’ positioning as a destination for leisure, entertaining and meaningful social experiences.

As part of the launch, Grosvenor House Suites has also partnered with Kathryn Sargent, the first British female Master Tailor, to design new uniforms for the Ember Cigarsteam. Renowned for her pioneering role on Savile Row, Sargent's designs reflect the property's commitment to craftsmanship, heritage and personalised service.

"The opening of Ember Cigars, alongside the ongoing enhancement of our suites and public spaces, further strengthens our position as a residential-style address in Mayfair, offering guests privacy, space and personalised service in the heart of London,” says Andrew Henning, General Manager of Grosvenor House Suites.

For further information visit: www.embercigars.co.uk

Ember Cigars is open from 4.30pm to 12am everyday with cigars for all price levels.

£700K INVESTMENT TRANSFORMS CITY WELLNESS DESTINATION

Double shortlist follows new fitness, thermal and treatment experiences

ACROSS THE hospitality industry, wellness has moved from a nice-to-have to a guest priority. People no longer want just a treatment or a workout; they want an experience that supports how they move, recover and switch off.

At One Spa, part of Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, based in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre, that shift is now visible in bricks and mortar: a five-month programme of new fitness, thermal and treatment experiences, with more still to come, forming part of a £700,000 investment in the guest experience and the spa's long-term future.

Fiona Young, Spa Director at One Spa, said:

"The way people think about wellness has changed significantly. Guests are looking beyond a treatment or a workout and increasingly want experiences that support movement, recovery, relaxation and their wider wellbeing.

“That has shaped where we are investing, and our aim is to offer more choice in how people use One Spa, whether that's mindful movement, a shared wellness experience, time in the thermal facilities or simply having the opportunity to properly switch off."

Movement has been one of the biggest areas of change for the property. A new Reformer Pilates Studio has opened in response to growing demand for low-impact, strength-based exercise, while the wider fitness space has been fitted out with new Technogym equipment, virtual class technology and a functional training area offering guided individual sessions, from stretching to strength work, through interactive workout technology.

Treatments and retail have had a refresh too. NOW Nail Bar, in partnership with OPI, has relaunched with a dedicated space for nail treatments, and Skin Rocks, the skincare brand founded by facialist Caroline Hiron, is being introduced to One Spa's treatment and retail offer, with more details to follow.

One Spa is also strengthening its approach to inclusive treatment, with further oncology treatment training planned and membership of the Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care beginning this month.

To reflect the growing interest in touchless and shared wellness, the new Rasul Mud Bothy offers an immersive, self-guided thermal wellness experience, while a new poolside sauna has also opened. The former laconium room is being reconfigured to house a bigger steam room, reflecting demand for the existing experience. A brand-new cooler experience room will create further opportunities for hot-and-cold contrast therapy, sitting alongside existing facilities including the Tepidarium, rooftop Hydropool, Thermal Suite, Himalayan Dry Salt Room and Rock Sauna. A new moss wall has also been installed to strengthen the spa's connection with nature.

Behind the scenes, the investment runs just as deep. With robes and slippers washed in-house for a steady stream of spa guests each day, additional laundry equipment has been installed to keep pace with demand. The locker system has also had a complete overhaul, with new wristband access and upgraded entry gates. New staff shower and toilet facilities and a new music system for the treatment-room level are among further improvements to the working environment, and a new Hydropool cover will help reduce energy use.

Martijn Zengerink, Multi-Property General Manager at Sheraton, said:

"This is about making sure One Spa continues to evolve while retaining the experience and character that people have come to know over many years. The new facilities are the most visible part of the programme, but investment behind the scenes matters just as much. Maintaining standards over the long-term means looking at the whole operation, from the experiences guests enjoy to the infrastructure and working environment that support our team every day."

The investment comes as One Spa is shortlisted in two Good Spa Guide Awards 2026 categories, Best Spa in Scotland and Best Hotel Spa, with public voting open until 31 August.

It follows previous recognition from the Good Spa Guide, which named One Spa Best Spa in Scotland in both 2023 and 2024, before it was shortlisted again in the regional category in 2025.

ANSTY HALL UNVEILS NEW BEDROOM DESIGNS AS PART OF EXCLUSIVE COLLECTION HOTEL RENOVATION

Inspired by Coventry’s colourful history, Exclusive Collection’s Ansty Hall has undergone the first phase of bedroom renovations and is delighted to unveil seven newly reimagined rooms that invite guests to discover the region through thoughtfully curated interiors.

Following a refurb of the ground floor by Exclusive Collection when they took over the 17th century property in 2023,the bedroom renovations mark the next stage of the hotel’s upgrade.

The Midlands country house hotel is located just outside of Ansty, a small village known for its historical weaving industry. Two new signature rooms, named Leofric and Whittle, have been redesigned in partnership with interior design specialist, Russell Sage Studio.

The Leofric room takes its name from Leofric, Earl of Mercia, one of the most influential figures of 11thcentury England and previous landholder of Ansty village, as well as husband to Anglo Saxon philanthropist Lady Godiva. Its richly layered design encourages guests to discover something new at every turn, with an imposing carved timber bed, warm ochre fabrics and statement freestanding copper bath creating a sense of occasion and escapism.

In Whittle, a hand-painted cloudscape ceiling invites guests to look upwards. The room nods to Coventry-born Sir Frank Whittle, inventor of the world’s first turbo jet engine and pioneering RAF officer of the British aerospace industry. Aviation -inspired artwork, technical illustrations and contemporary details celebrate the inventor’s extraordinary achievements.

A further five newly redesigned bedrooms take influence from local craftsmanship and the textiles industry, designed by Trevillion Interiors. Signature room, Woad, refers to the plant once cultivated to produce the famous Coventry ‘true blue’ dye, renowned for its rich colour in medieval England. Layered textiles, embroidered details, and bespoke furnishings create a contemporary room full of colour and a reminder that the most memorable discoveries are often those closest to home.

Adding one additional bedroom to the hotels offering, Ansty Hall now presents sixty-three bedrooms in total.

Speaking about the significance of the redesign and the hotel’s design vision, Steve Ogden, General Manager at Ansty Hall shared,

“We are incredibly proud of the history and innovation that surrounds Ansty Hall and invite our guests to uncover those stories through our spaces. Our new bedrooms offer a sense of wonder with thoughtful details celebrating local legends and the weaving industry of Ansty, inspiring a truly meaningful and restorative stay. Since Ansty Hall joined the Exclusive Collection, we’ve sought to be a place of discovery, and welcome all visitors to slow down, take in their surroundings and be part of the next chapter of Ansty Hall's story”

This is the first stage in a wider restoration programme of the bedrooms, which will continue in 2027
