The QHotels Collection introduce specialist cancer massage training for spa therapists.
The QHotels Collection has undergone training with Amethyst Trust to develop an approach to treating guests with or recovering from cancer in their spas.
With 21 resorts across the UK, The QHotels Collection is proud to roll out the training for its therapists nationwide, offering safe and inclusive treatments to those touched by cancer.
With the support of Amethyst Trust, they aim to fully embrace the therapeutic benefits of massage therapy and treat those guests safely and effectively.
The training provided to therapists involves online and face-to-face modules, including cancer theory and understanding, client care procedures, case studies and learning specialist adaptations to treatments.
The course was one of the first to be approved by a leading insurance provider and has been approved by the industry Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care (SATCC), along with Habia, the Federation of Holistic Therapies (FHT).
Previously massage clients have only been able to receive massage therapy with a signed referral from their GP, however, this endorsed training now means The QHotels Collection can welcome guests and provide treatment without needing a GP letter and are fully equipped and insured to do so.
The treatment options vary depending on the hotel, and they include facials and massages using Elemis products, carried out with adaptions made to the pace and direction of movements or different pressure points.
Keith Pickard, Golf, Health Club & Spa Director at The QHotels Collection says, “We are very proud to have our therapists trained by the Amethyst Trust, and I’m delighted we can offer this specialist kind of treatment for guests who may be ill or recovering.
Our therapists are very confident in providing the best level of care and treatments, giving guests ultimate reassurance throughout. We’re pleased that 30 of our therapists have already completed the training, with many more due to complete the course this Winter. At such times in our guests’ lives, it is a wonderful experience to be able to make a small difference to how they are feeling, giving support and guidance.”
Debbie Moore, Co-Founder of Amethyst Trust shares, “We are delighted to be working with The Q Hotels Collection and training their fantastic therapist team in Specialist Cancer Massage.
Massage can be a huge benefit to people living with cancer or recovering from cancer and can help aid relaxation and sleep and may even help to reduce pain. Without specialist training, therapists may have previously had to turn away guests living with cancer, this causes huge embarrassment to the therapist or receptionist and deep upset and disappointment to the client.
Amethyst Trust and The QHotels Collection are passionate that all guests are welcomed and that therapists have the knowledge and understanding to competently and confidently be able to adapt massage and facial treatments to be appropriate for these guests and welcome them.”
